Pregnancy and Postpartum Counseling: The Early Years

Was having your baby not what you hoped or dreamed it would be?

Are you feeling angry, sad, irritable, fearful or worried?

Maybe you’re having difficulty bonding with your baby or becoming resentful toward your partner. Are you having upsetting thoughts that you can’t get out of your mind?

Does leaving your baby with someone else or even alone in the next room make you so anxious that you feel paralyzed?

Do you sometimes feel like your baby might be better off with someone else?

If any of these thoughts or feelings resonate with you… you’ve found the right place.

1 in 5 women and 1 in 10 men will experience depression or anxiety during pregnancy or after birth.

In a world where social media makes everything seem magical and perfect, it’s no wonder we don’t hear about what parenthood can really feel like.

With the right support, you can prevent a worsening of these symptoms and fully recover. There is no reason to continue to suffer.  You are not alone and I am here to help you feel hopeful again.

Healthy parents are the core of a healthy family and together we will work on the tools and support you need to feel well again so you can look toward the future with strength and hope.

Postpartum therapy at Quiet Light Counseling in Connecticut

As a Postpartum Support International (PSI) trained perinatal mental health therapist, I bring both professional training and personal insight to our work together. I understand how overwhelming and disorienting this season of life can feel, and I offer a warm, nonjudgmental space where we take things one step at a time.

You’ll receive:

  • A clear plan with practical tools for feeling better

  • Space to process birth trauma, identity shifts, and changing relationships

  • Guidance for navigating postpartum depression, anxiety, and intrusive thoughts

  • Support for rebuilding confidence, boundaries, and a sense of self

  • Help creating your “village” of support

  • A therapy pace that honors your energy levels and capacity

Whether in person or via telehealth, I strive to make therapy as accessible and comfortable as possible. Babies and toddlers are always welcome in my office, and my space is set up to accommodate feeding, reclining, or simply being close to your child. If leaving the house feels too hard right now, telehealth is a flexible and effective option.

Let’s walk this journey together toward healing, connection, and a stronger you.

Beyond Postpartum:

Maternal and Paternal Mental Health

Parenting doesn’t stop after the fourth trimester. It evolves and so do the emotional, mental, and relational challenges. From toddlerhood to teenage years and everything in between, parenting asks so much of us. Many of the moms and dads that I work with find themselves trying to hold it all together while juggling the invisible load of caregiving, careers, relationships, personal growth, and their own emotional well-being.

You might be:

  • Wondering how to balance work and family life

  • Feeling the weight of “provider pressure” or caregiver burnout

  • Struggling with self-care or resentment

  • Facing changes or strain in your relationship or sexual connection

  • Navigating evolving friendships or loneliness

  • Dealing with aging parents while raising young children

  • Reflecting on how your own upbringing is influencing how you parent

  • Wanting to be a better model for emotional health and attachment but unsure how

All stages of parenting require different types of support.

With 14 years of experience as a school counselor, I bring deep understanding of child development and parenting dynamics into our sessions. Together, we’ll work on supporting not just your mental health but your growth as a parent and person. You’ll learn to set boundaries, regulate stress, and make intentional choices about how you want to show up in your family without losing yourself in the process.

Therapy isn’t just about surviving; it’s about helping you thrive, so you can be the steady, whole-hearted parent and partner you want to be.

Postpartum Client Testimonial

"Hi Lauren,
I wanted to say thank you again for your time today and also to show you something that I found pretty amazing. I started wearing an Oura ring a few weeks ago and I just looked at my stress levels for the day. It’s been high for the past several days because of everything [going on with me and the kids]. I couldn’t believe the dip in stress levels during the exact time I was with you today. Clearly you provide such a safe space for me and I am so thankful. I hope this is a good reminder of how important the work you do truly is."
